Real world vs. cyber world: Which one’s better for your kid?

By Jasina Subscribe to RSS | December 12th 2011 | Views:

The kids should be exposed to those activities that get them close to the feel of the real world.

In today’s world, our lives are so much intruded by the technology that even parents fear that staying in all this virtual imagery might hamper the way the communicate with their natural one. And this worrying is not without a cause. More and more kids are increasingly spending their leisure time in cyber space, be it playing video games or talking online with friends (chatting). It is very important that the kids engage in actual activities that make them break a sweat. These real world activities also instill in these kids to develop skills that are well shaped. But the question remains: how to get the kid participate in these kinds of activities?

We all know that kids love those situations where they have other kids to play with. So the next time there is an activity wherein the other kids are also present and your kids is also willing to be a part of it, by all means make him or her a part. Even if it means taking time off from your office or driving your kid to the place. This participation will prove fruitful in the long run. Also, if your kid had a certain interest or hobby that entailed some physical movement like cycling or playing table tennis, but is not doing that now, then make sure that he joins some swim club.

One more important thing is that actual world activity does not only means physical or sports activity. It could be doing artwork, playing board games like chess etc, or even cooking. When kids undergo these activities with other kids from their age group, it builds their communication skills, make them more confident of themselves and build a better understanding different relations work.

One bad effect of online interaction with others is misunderstandings that result. But when you are dealing with someone in real life, your child has a better chance of eliminating or minimizing these confusions. Also, when in need, your kid will rely more on a friend whom he can see and meet regularly, rather some far off acquaintance on the web.

And once your kid starts out with this fun outdoors and indoors activity with his ‘real’ friends, there would be no stopping him. But remember, do not push him. It might boomerang. Take it slow and gradual.
