Little Flora, the four 6 year old little daughter of Mr. David is a darling to everyone. In this small age, she has learnt how to behave with others, whether they are her your brothers or sisters, or any old person. Everything is good about her. When she was of about 3 years, her parents admitted her into a pre primary school where the teachers discovered that Flora faces some difficulties when learning new things.

She could easily understand things that teachers demonstrated practically in the class, but whenever she was gives particular words to memorize the spelling, she could not memorize them. The parents of Flora were unaware of this difficulty. But when they came to know about this from her teachers, they immediately consulted a child specialist to seek help. Flora was discovered to have learning disorder. It is not that she cannot read or write, but she has difficulty to memorize things.

There are many kids like flora who are facing varied learning disabilities. There is a common belief that kids with such disabilities are not smart and rather dumb. But this conception is totally wrong. These kids often show great craftsmanship in different areas of life.A learning disability does not mean difficulties with motivation or intelligence. The kids suffering from this kind of disability are not dumb, but their brain is wired differently.

This may lead to acquire new skills or putting them to use. The most common types of learning disabilities involve problems with reading, writing, math, reasoning, listening, and speaking. It sometime becomes tough for the parents to accept that their kid is suffering from a particular type of learning disability. But patience and proper care from the parents side can help the child to enjoy their adult life. There are some ways that parents can follow to help their kids to come out of such a situation. These ways are briefly discussed below:-

• We parents should always remember that obstacles are just a part of our life and our efforts can remove those obstacles from the way. so it is up to us to teach our kids about fighting the circumstances and winning over the situation

• Try to understand your child first before going to help them out. Nurture a two way communication between you and your child so that transparency in the relation can exist

• Always support the child and never enforce or suppress the child’s inner wishes. This may lead them to more destructive path and can make them all the more disabled

• It is our influence that outweighs over any other influence. When such kids enter a normal school, they may face difficulties to mix up in a new environment. At this point kids mostly need parental support and influence

• Parents should always be in touch with their child’s school authorities so that they can monitor the growth of their child on a regular basis.

Talk with your learning disabled child about problem solving and share how you approach problems in your life. If your child is hesitant to make choices and take action, try to provide some “safe” situations to test the water, like choosing what to make for dinner or thinking of a solution for a scheduling conflict.
