Obsession of Facebook on the Teenagers
“Hey I saw your photos on Facebook, those were lovely… Even I’m going to upload mine today… Do not forget to like those and make your wonderful comments also” or “Hey how come you’re not Facebooking these days? I hope you are doing well…. These are excerpts of conversation shared by the present generation of teenagers. If one listens to their conversation, one will be bound to think that there is nothing beyond Facebook in this world. In fact, the photo sessions among these teenagers have become more these days, not because they love photography but because they have to upload all that they’ve been upto for their friends to know on the world’s most popular social networking site, Facebook.
Having an account on Facebook has become a style statement for the youth of these days. They find themselves handicapped if they are not on any Social networking site and even find themselves aloof and cut off from the rest of the world. In fact, the site itself has become their world. This category of youngsters calls other people outdated who don’t have an access or even account on Facebook.
Facebook is one of the most popular social networking sites and the website was launched in February 2004, operated and privately owned by Facebook. According to the data of July 2011, Facebook reports to have more than 800 million active users. The founder of Facebook is Mark Zuckerberg with the help of his college roommates and fellow students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. Initially the membership of the Web site was limited by the founders to only the Harvard students, but was later it has been expanded to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and Stanford University. It slowly allowed adding support for the students at numerous other universities before it was opened to the students of high school, and eventually to any person of age 13 years and above. On the other hand, the ConsumersReports.org of May 2011 says that there are 7.5 million children under 13 years of age who have their accounts in the site, and as a result this is violating the site's terms of service.
Children who violate the sites terms and conditions often land up with trouble. They make friendship with unknown people and get themselves in trouble. To keep such troubles away, parents should keep an eye over what their children are doing with the internet and they also should check what sites they are having their access to. A social networking site is good until people make wrong use of it.
