Dissertation chapters are the main components of a thesis. They are a necessary part because they maintain the constant flow of information from the beginning till the end.

Following are the main sections a thesis has to have at any cost:


This is usually written for outside readers, if your thesis is going to be published. It usually appears in journals, newspapers, internet databases, etc. The purpose of writing an abstract is to give the reader an insight about the subject of discussion. The reader decides by reading the abstract whether the subject is of his taste or not, and if he wants to read the whole thesis.


In this section you basically tell the reader about your choice of topic. You only have to include the key points relating to your topic. Prologue is the most important section of all; this is because the reader reads the opening first. If the opening is not interesting, he will not proceed. This is where you have to develop interest of the reader.

In this section you will also state the thesis question that you will be answering in your section. Give a brief description of the method of research you will be taking up to answer this question.

3.Literature Review:

In this section you will discuss and argue on your topic in detail. You will include every kind of information that you might have dug up. Your aim will be to provide background information for the non expert reader looking forward to have an overview of the field; to reveal your snatch of the topic.


The methodology section of a thesis must talk about how the investigate was carried out, particulars about the apparatus and equipment used for exploring, in addition to the boundaries of the research. You will justify and tell the reader or the committees why you have you have chosen a certain method of research for this thesis and how it compliments with your topic.


Here you will show the results that you have achieved from your research. Discuss the outcome of your argument and how you have proved your point of view. Tell the reader, in short, how you have answered the thesis question sufficiently.


This section gives you a chance of comparing your results with the results of researches made before you in the same field. Your research should contain something new, so that the comparison is interesting.


In this section you should sum up all your key points and come about a final decision. You will have to prepare yourself for all the counter arguments that might come your way relating to the topic. You will also have to revise your work and prepare for any questions that might be asked during the defense.


This division must include all books, articles, journals and online sources which you have used in the course of writing. A separate section must include, in alphabetical order, all the resources you have used for researching.


Dissertation introduction chapter is an important constituent of your thesis, because they maintain a flow of your information. It is a system of presenting your data which should be followed. There are certain rules and regulations relating these sections for which you must consult your committee.
