Are You Suffering from Ear Infection
Ear infections are very common in children. Although, this condition affect adults also. This condition can be acute or chronic and can vary from short time to long time. It can cause temporary hear loss. It is known as otitis media. It is mainly an inflammation of the middle ear. Several factors may lead to otitis media such as sore throats, colds and respiratory illness.
Symptoms:
• This inflammation may be resulted from viruses, bacteria etc.
• Acute condition of this ailment shows symptoms of ear pin, fever and sometimes causes ear drainage also.
• Sometimes it also causes chronic inflammation and persistent swelling. It is generally resulted from fluid retention after a chronic infection.
• This condition raises ear pressure which is also known as popping.
To whom this condition affects?
• Shorter and flatter shape of Eustachian tube allows micro -organisms to enter in the inner ear that cause an infection there. Sometimes surgical placement is also required to release the ear pressure from the ear tubes.
• As the individual grow the shape and length of the Eustachian tube becomes more vertical that discourage bacteria to enter there that’s why children are more prone to otitis media than adults.
• Those children suffers from upper respiratory infections, often develops acute symptoms of this condition. Those suffer from down syndrome or cleft palate often develop more ear infections than any other and those regularly exposed to tobacco smoke are also found prone to ear infections.
• Wrong feeding method can also induce ear problem in the newborn such as feeding an infant with bottle, puts the child at the risk of this syndrome because of the altered position of body. The severity of each case depends. The child should always be cradled in the upright position during feeding.
It is a very discomfortable situation. This condition may also result from foreign matter breathed in. this cause irritation in the Eustachian tubes.
Following symptoms are helpful to identify the syndrome. These are:
• Pus or fluid in the Eustachian tube
• Hearing loss
• Inflammation in the ear
• Fever
• Sensation of fullness in ear
• Dizziness
• Pain in the ear
Prevention:
Prevention of this syndrome can be done by washing hands frequently as it avoids picking up bacteria. Whenever you touch any dusty substance or after nasal passage, don’t forget to wash your hands. It’s extremely important to avoid contact from bacteria. Wash your hands before meals also.
It is a preventable condition and doesn’t cause much harm if treated on right time. Surgical placements are required only in severe cases otherwise this condition can be treated with the help of antibiotics. The incubation period of otitis media may vary so whenever anyone feels any problem in his ear like drainage, inflammation, infection, and sensation or hearing lose, he must visit the doctor.
