South India is well-known for innumerable tourist attractions, culturally rich heritage, wildlife and the natural beauty which is all-pervading in every state. A lot has been written and talked about the experiences visitors have on their visit to the destinations of southern India, however unless you decide to explore and unlock the hidden treasures yourself you won’t be able to live the true essence of this part of India. Places worth visiting are plenty in south India in the states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Below are some of the must-visit destinations of these three states that will surely make you fall in love with this region.

Kerala: Mind soothing backwaters, lush green tea plantations, wildlife adventures, peaceful beaches; this is just a brief description of god’s own country Kerala. Alleppey, a small town of this state is popular for its backwaters and the luxury houseboats that sail at their own pace. Enjoy soaking the morning sunrays, lazy afternoons and romantic evenings along with fishing and star gazing during the nights on these houseboats. Athirapally tourism has a water theme park and the Vazhachal waterfalls for the water lovers or the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and Pandikuzhi which is an ideal place for trekking situated in Thekkady; you will surely get to witness the best of nature at both of these destinations. Kerala is also home to one of the most visited hill station, Munnar. Absorb the aroma of fresh tea leaves, enjoy boating at the Kundala; you can do a lot more when in Munnar. A visit to the city of Cochin will make you feel you are in a vibrant city. From the Kathakali dance to Chinese fishing nets you can spot the local fishermen using these nets throughout the city or the St. Francis Church that will take you back to the European era, Cochin is a fine blend of history and the present world.

Karnataka: Hill stations, marvelous man-made architecture and wildlife are what Karnataka tourism is best known for. The capital city of Bangalore will give you a pleasant welcome with spic and span, lush green gardens, the iconic ISCKON and bull temples and the spectacular Bangalore palace. The city of Mysore’s Brindavan Gardens that consist of wide stretched green lawns, flower beds and the statue of goddess Kaveri, when here you can get to experience the true grandness. Coorg tourism is famous for coffee and spice plantations and the Abbey falls that make for a perfect picnic spot amidst nature’s wonder. For nature and wildlife explorers Kabini is the ideal destination, here you can visit the national park where you can spot exotic birds and flowers and animals. An elephant safari should be on your must do list here, there is nothing like watching the quiet elephants lazing around in the dense forests.

Tamil Nadu: Temples, hill stations and art is what Tamil Nadu tourism best known for. The town of Pondicherry will let you have a close glimpse of the French architecture and history through its churches and local attractions. Even though the town still keeps its French connection alive, the temples have their own charm and are drenched in the rich southern heritage. The hill station of Ooty will leave you spellbound with the rose garden, Ooty lake, deer park, thread garden.

With so many destinations and experiences waiting to be explored, a south India tour should not be missed if you are considering a long vacation.
