Shopping in Salzburg

Salzburg provides many opportunities to indulge in a little shopping and see what the city has to offer. Shopping is a great way to experience the culture of the city and understand more about its inhabitants, and there are plenty of places to see and, as with every other avenue of Salzburg, lots to learn about the city.

For true class and style, you must make a trip to Getreidegasse just to experience the exceptional and unique atmosphere this shopping mile has to offer. This high-class and very exclusive shopping location is a great way to explore the culture of the city.

For the more relaxed shopper, the markets in Salzburg are definitely worth visiting. The Green market on University Square and the nearby Wiener Philharmoniker Gasse are both home to a great selection of fresh meats, cheeses, vegetables, seafood and bread, as well as an abundance of local crafts and flowers. Another market worth a look is the Schranne in front of St. Andrews Church.

For a more local shopping experience, the Salzburg Old Town, home to the Getreidgasse, is packed with shops, boutiques, stalls and cafes, ranging in goods from jewellery and clothes to books and souvenirs. The charming narrow lanes and pretty squares enhance the experience and there are plenty of opportunities to relax with cafes, restaurants and vendors plying their wares throughout the Old Town. When booking your Salzburg hotel, there are a wealth of accommodation options for you to consider, but if shopping is your main aim, than a hotel that is within close proximity to the major shopping areas will allow you to make the most of your time.
