Shopping in Galway
Galway has some of the best shopping in Ireland. When you stay in a Galway hotel you will have convenient access to a vast range of shopping outlets of all sorts, from small specialist shops to major high street retailers and famous brand names.
As the regional capital for the west of Ireland, Galway’s catchment area is a wide one and its shopping outlets reflect the diverse range of needs of its visitors from at home as well as from farther afield.
The main shopping area in Galway is on the complex of streets at the heart of the city. To complement these, and on the city’s outskirts, there are a number of big shopping centres with everything under one roof. These are convenient for regular shoppers who don’t want to travel into Galway city centre, and have capacious parking facilities, but tourists prefer the old city centre shops for their colour and diversity.
Galway has a large number of tourist-oriented gift shops in recognition of the increasing attention it receives from that quarter, and visitors from countries outside of the EU can claim tax back on gifts bought in many of these outlets.
If you like books then don’t miss Galway’s Latin Quarter and the labyrinthine Kenny’s Bookshop. Just about any used book you can think of will have survived in these stacked corridors in some shape or form, and the whole place is a bibliophile’s dream.
Check at the desk in your Galway hotel for further information on shopping in Galway.
