Salamanca is one holiday spot with many offerings for the locals and holidaymakers from around the globe. There are plenty to see and do while holidaying in Salamanca, Spain.

High and low

Salamanca offers a variety of natural sights. Its high comprises the Sierra de Bejar and Sierra de Francia high mountain ranges that loom majestically over Salamanca. The sight is awesome to behold for any tourist. Accompanying them is the low of Los Arribes which is a granite canyon that forms a north east frontier between Portugal and Spain.

There are great rivers flowing through Salamanca; the Tormes River and the Tajo River are but two of the characteristic flows in Salamanca which supply water to the local plantations and vegetation.

There is also Camp Charro which is a vast meadow well known for its bull breeding activities. The area is surrounded by beautiful and sturdy oak-woods which lend more credence to the environment for its beauty.

Sights at Sierra de Francia

The highest point at Peña de Francia is its peak of 1.723m; it is a very popular destination for holidays by the locals who would make a day trip to enjoy the cool air and great views. The place is very tranquil with green valleys. A romantic ambience fills the air with quaint villages such as Las Batuecas which is uniquely situated in a wild-life preserve. One can catch a glimpse of mountain goats and lynxes around this place.

For those who seek after tranquility in a spiritual way, the San José del Monte monastery offers just that. Visitors would feel relaxes and enjoy a peace of mind as they can stay over at the monastery with a love offering. This would make a great and unique adventure for those who want something different to the holidays.

Alberca is another nearby traditional village in Salamanca which was declared as the first national monument in the year 1940. There is still a substantial population in this village that still practices the pagan traditions and customs of old. Hence, a lot of ancient culture is conserved with interesting folklore.

There are many other quaint villages which would make a worthy visit for an enjoyable holiday in Salamanca. These include Sequeros, Miranda and Mogarraz. February 5th is a special day for all female visitors at these beautiful villages where a traditional festival takes place. The Santa Agueda fiesta is celebrated with the tradition of men obeying women on that day.
