Sanya is probably one of the most beautiful places to visit along the South China Sea and certainly a tourist gem and escape for those on a journey through this mysterious land of the orient. Unlike anywhere else in China, the Hainan Province is home to island natives that take pride in making their home one of the best places in the world to visit. Specifically, locals here have turned particular zones of the Southern most tip of the island into specially designated “tourism zones”

Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone

This specially designed amusement and theme park is dedicated to the country national religion, Buddhism. The Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone is quite a drive away from the Sanya city centre. It is 40 kilometers away to be exact which makes it a destination perfect for renting a car or personal taxi for the day. Just ask your Sanya hotel for directions and what the best transportation method is to get there. Many people find driving in a foreign country quite intimidating. Especially in a country that may have very different road courtesies that you are used to. In some countries in Asia, the bigger vehicle always has the right of way even if they are not following the rules of the road correctly. China is also not a country not particularly known for regulation leniency, so if you do plan to drive, be sure to have all the correct paperwork in order and on you at all times.

Whichever way you choose to travel, Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone is definitely worth a visit. It is a distant but beautiful drive to Nanshan Mountain where the views of the surrounding island will stun and amaze. Once you arrive at the Nanshan cultural park, you will be greeted with a heavy presence of Chinese morality and ethics. Strategically placed relics and written works are spread throughout the park to enlighten its visitors and provide a place for deep and soothing introspection.

Philosophy is one of the key components into the long-lasting mystique of the Chinese people. Nanshan is an astounding place, because it is able to replicate that mystique in the midst of a tropical paradise where generally people go to dissolve into the sea and forget the real and serious world for a short time. One very special part of this island reservoir is the Nanshan Temple. The temple occupies over 400 acres of the park and can be seen from all around. The park itself is one a mountain over 500 meters tall and the stunning views of the sea and environs make it a view not to be missed.

The charm of the temple lies in its impressive rock garden and surrounding lake villa. Green waters reflect the luscious greenery of the overlooking mountains and full leafy trees that are unique to only this part of the world. From the top of the staircase leading up to the temple, visitors need only to take a look behind them to see one of the most unforgettable sights known to man. Like the structured walkway of a great royal dynasty, the temple’s path expands beyond comprehension. People are but tiny specs of ants on the concrete from the temple view which leads out beyond the edge of the universe into the blue abyss. Right in the center of your bird’s eye view, however, is a great dominating and mighty statue of Buddha. A sand spit carries Sanya’s “Great Wall” out onto a gigantic circular platform holding the giant religious figurehead. It is truly an uplifting spiritual experience for all to see. Even if you are looking to spend time in a quiet and relaxing hotel Sanya and its ocean views is a spectacular place to call home for your holiday.
