Despite having won the Curry Capital of Britain award for two years running Glasgow still hosts some of the best Scottish fare you will find anywhere. There is also plenty to whet your appetite in the form of European, Italian and Vegetarian restaurants so if you are staying in one of the many Glasgow hotels you have a wide selection to choose from.

For local, Scottish fare The Chardon D’Or is highly recommended. Brian Maule, the owner and head chef, has previous been a business partner of Gordon Ramsey, the Glaswegian celebrity chef. Maule’s restaurant opened in 2001 and is now widely recognised as being one of the best in Glasgow. The Ubiquitous Chip may be a little on the expensive side and booking is essential but the top quality food made with traditional Scottish produce is worth the effort.

Of course Indian food in Glasgow is bound to be of top quality and the number of quality Indian restaurants attest to that. The Killermont Polo Club is an upmarket restaurant in the affluent north western part of the city. It is in a clubhouse setting and has won many awards for its quality fare. That said, much of the best in Indian food in Glasgow is to be found in the informal takeaways where traditional Scottish food is often blended with Indian-style cooking.

There are also numerous Italian and vegetarian restaurants. The 13th Note has a full bar and serves good vegetarian food including vegan haggis. Sofias is a great spot for good Italian food, while the Il Pavone restaurant is regarded as one of the most established and best Italian eateries in Glasgow.
