Golden Jackal, Indian Porcupine, leopard, tiger, Nilgiri Tahr (unique species of goat), birds like wood pigeon, flycatcher and pipit etc. are the inhabitants of this park. Periyar National Park - This national park is famous for elephants. It is situated at a distance of 120 KMs from Kochi, in the Western Ghats Mountains. It is also a tiger reserve and is the home to different animals such as barking deer, sambar deer, mouse deer, bison, leopards, and birds like kingfishers, darters, cormorants etc. The park is also the home to reptiles like king cobra and python. Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary - It lies at a distance of 60 KM from the hill station of Munnar. It is a picturesque sanctuary which is full of greeneries and is also the home to many animals like spotted deer, elephant, panther, horse deer, gaur, Endangered Indian Giant Squirrel, rabbit, langur etc. One can get a beautiful view of the Western Ghats while driving towards this sanctuary. Kumarakom (Vembanad Bird Sanctuary) - This is a paradise for bird lovers and is situated in the midst of the backwaters in Kerala, in the district of Kottayam. It is the home to many migratory birds as well as local birds like cuckoo, egret, owl, waterfowl, Siberian crane, darter, moorhen, parrot, teal, and flycatcher etc. It is highly recommended for all bird lovers and is also included in packages.
