Also, known as Bengaluru, Bangalore is the capital of Karnataka, an Indian state. The city is famous for its parks and gardens hence it is also known as the “garden city”. In the south eastern part of the country, this city is situated on the Deccan plateau. From population point of view and urban agglomeration, the city is considered to be third and fifth largest respectively. To reach this beautiful city, best airfares are available. Recently, this city has also gained prominence as a hub for Information Technology sector in India. Growing number of colleges and institutes has also made the place popular from education point of view.

To reach this beautiful city, one can opt for cheap plane fares offered by travel agencies. Flights from various destinations come to Bengaluru International Airport. The IATA code of this airport is BLR. The airport is located away from the main city centre, about 40kms away from the central business area of the city. The airport covers an area of 4,000 acres and has replaced HAL airport. In terms of passengers’ footfalls, the airport was recognized as fourth busiest airport in the country in the year 2010-11. According to the statistics, 11.59 million passengers came through this airport in 2010-11. For the year 2011, this airport has been awarded “Best airport of India” as per survey conducted by Skytrax. The number of flights to Bangalore is increasing day by day. This has helped many passengers meaning to come to this beautiful city.

About 9.3 million passengers were handled by the airport. In the year 2009, the airport handled about 280 per day air traffic movements. The airport is expected to handle about 17 million passengers by year 2015. About ten domestic carriers and 21 international airlines connect the city nationally as well as internationally. The airport also serves as a hub for Kingfisher Airlines. Many other domestic carriers like SpiceJet, Indigo, Jet Airways, GoAir, JetLight, and many others ply their services.

The project related to this airport initiated as a joint venture between Government of Karnataka, Airport Authority of India and a German group namely, Siemens. In July 2005, development work in this airport started. Earlier it was postponed for about ten years. Also, the airport was designed to handle about 3.5 million passengers but later looking at the growing number of passengers the plans were designed to accommodate 12 million passengers per annum. Not only the size of the terminal increased because of redesigning but also new taxiway layouts, number of aircraft stands and infrastructure supporting them. Many cheap flights to Bangalore are also plying their services to this magnificent city.

The new airport was inaugurated on 23rd May 2008. This new four level airport building is fully air-conditioned and accommodates domestic as well as international operations in a successful manner. Separated arrival and departure areas have been designed on modern lines that allow a system of straight ahead flow. This unpretentious yet modern building truly matches international standards that are expected in any international airport.
