Formentera is one of the smaller islands of Balearic Islands. This island is only 90 square kilometers with 5200 inhabitants; it is situated 11 miles off Ibiza on its south east. It forms the Pitiusas of the Balearic Islands with Ibiza.

Being small, one can view the sea from any part of Formentera; numerous lovely beaches and tranquil bays with incredible grottos can be found.

Mediterranean Paradise

Formentera entices tourists with its pleasant climate all year through; its springtime temperatures throughout the year are conducive for growing many types of vegetation that include pines and palms. The quiet ambience of Formentera makes it a most relaxing paradise.

An offering of 300 sunshine days every year is enough to tempt many to Formentera with the available soft sandy beaches and rich culture. The locals extend their unusual hospitality to the tourists easily to make Formentera one of the preferred vacation spots in Spain. Palma de Mallorca airport welcomes millions of visitors every year which take tourists to the various islands of Balearic Islands.

Getting to Formentera

Formentera is best accessed by ferry which regularly departs from Ibiza. One can also consider departing from Saint Antoní harbor, Santa Eulalia or Platja d’en Bossa depending on one’s location and preference.

The ferry takes only 25 minutes if it is a speed ferry while normal ferries take an hour to reach Formentera. When the tourists reach Formentera port, there would be waiting buses to transit the tourists to various spots on Formentera. These include La Savina, La Mola and San Francisco.

Sightseeing at Formentera

On arrival to Formentera, one would already be enchanted by the lovely white beaches all around the island. There are several quaint villages on Formentera with one town hall.

La Savina proves to be the island’s only port with some typical Mediterranean white-washed houses while Las Salinas offers natural landscapes of unique beauty at the island’s narrowest portion.

Further into the island one would find Sant Fracesc Xavier which showcases whitewashed houses surrounding a fortified ancient church. San Fernando lies at the end of Es Pujols beach with large pine woods at the north and Mitjorn beach at the south.

Most tourists to Formentera make a beeline to the many lovely beaches on the island such as Cala Saona which is considered the best beach on the island.

It is possible to travel up to La Mola at the south east to enjoy the great panorama at 193 meters above the sea level. One can view the beautiful landscapes surrounding El Mirador while taking the opportunity to visit the village and beautiful Iglesia del Pilar church.
