The purchase of locomotive involves a huge sum of money hence many companies prefer to take them on lease for meeting their business needs. locomotive lease is mainly of two types net and full. In the net lease the lessor has to bear the maintenance and repair responsibility whereas in the full service lease the lessee undertakes the maintenance and repair work. This leasing can also be seasonal depending on the client’s requirements and needs. All the locomotives which are offered on lease are thoroughly checked and inspected to ensure that you receive the equipment that is ready for use.

The leasing also depends upon the locomotive specifications which are required. This leasing can easily meet the demands of various industries like chemical plants, refineries, steel mills, mainline auto ramps, short line railroads, port terminal operations, plastics plant, plastics packaging facilities and many others. The maintenance of locomotives including supply of expert technicians and spare parts is also covered in the lease agreement. Due to the economic swing leasing of high horsepower ones have brought marginal profits. There are many operating issues with older locomotives but with an increase in demand they are even being provided on lease.

Owners of old engines are finding it useful to lease out their locomotives and earn money while keeping it rail worthy. Due to limited scope in the field any option coming in the way of leasing should not be left out otherwise it would result in losing out on the revenue while the engine is parked in the shed. But in order to avail the leasing facility you first need to check for the units that are being offered on lease. Based on the units offered you can accordingly opt for the leasing facility. Before taking any locomotive on lease it is advisable to check the model, power for traction, engine type, maximum speed, track gauge, wheel diameters, braking, batteries and other essential specifications.
