With respect to embroidered patches and their uses, there's many to pick from: a few people use them to decorate their motorbike jackets and vests while many sports teams and local clubs will use them to identify themselves and they're even used as a reward system for successful students. Nevertheless , many people will also trade in them or collect them. You will see evidence of this in the Boy Scouts of The United States of America Organization. Boy Scouts have been collecting and trading embroidered patches and motorcycle patches since they've been around. This is a fantastic way to remember regional and local events, motivate individual scouts to achieve and meet new friends.

Collecting Boy Scout patches is so big that there is literally hundreds of internet websites dedicated to supporting the hobby. Whenever scouts get together on a regional or national basis there's commonly entire sections of the camp devoted to patch trading. In modern times, you will even find that a few of the scout events have actually been organized around the purpose of patch trading. It is not only embroidered patches that the scouts will trade at these events; some of them trade in things like flags, coffee mugs, banners and sashes.

The Various Kinds of Boy Scout Patches

In relation to Boy Scout patches, there is 3 main types in the world of collectors. The achievement patches are the first type. These are given to the scouts when they earn special awards or merit badges. Most patch collectors will have a keen interest in the old merit badges that're not made any more. These vintage merit patches are highly sought after among older patch collectors because they bring back fond memories of when they were scouts themselves.

The second style of patch is the event patch. Wintertime events that are often held by local councils could be something like a Klondike Derby. There'll be a new patch for an event like that each year. Then you'll have statewide events generally known as Jamborees, followed by regional and national jamborees. You'll find that there'll be special merchandise for events like this including the embroidered patch, t-shirts and baseball caps for example. Finally, there is special events like Order of the Arrow gatherings on both the local and national level.

Third, there's patches for specific locations of interest in Scouting. One prime example is a New Mexico camp referred to as Philmont Boy Scout Ranch. This camp is a huge adventure camp set on thousands of acres and based near the town of Cimarron. Scouts who can manage to get to Philmont and complete one of the rigorous programs they offer have earned a special patch of recognition; a patch that's very valuable.

Embroidered Patches can be Collected

Patches have been part of Scouting since the early days of Baden Powell's first troops in the united kingdom at the turn of the 20th century. In the beginning, patches would denote rank and they were also awarded to those people that had achieved certain things but these days there's much more to them. Collecting and trading embroidered patches is a thing that Boy Scouts should really consider doing.

Even if you're not a Boy Scout, you can still really enjoy collecting and trading embroidered patches. You can find embroidered patches at craft stores, sports and collectible outlets, and even through local youth groups and church organizations. You just need a few patches to get started and a desire to get out there collecting more.
