The Indian Air Force Recruitment: for Those Interested in a Flying Career

The Indian Air Force recruitment and enrollment is carried out by the Central Airmen Selection Board or CASB, as it is popularly known as. This procedure is carried out by this board in 14 selection centers throughout India. These centers are controlled by CASB, with the respective Air Commands handling and supporting the administration. All India Selection Tests and Recruitment Rallies carry out the recruitment of Personnel below Officer Rank, as an Airman of the IAF. These tests are performed at the Airmen Selection Centers, all over India. This has a scheduled time, whereas Recruitment Rallies are carried out from time to time in any particular regions of States or Union Territories. Through advertisements in Employment News and Rozgar Samachar, people can apply for the All India Selection Test and forward their application to the given address.

Recruitment Rallies procedure:

These rallies are carried out from time to time in selected places in India. Advertisements for Rally provide details such as the venue of the rally, eligibility conditions and the program of selection. These advertisements can be found in local newspapers, which are circulated in the region of the rally. The eligible candidates have to report to the said rally venue on the scheduled date with the necessary documents. They have to carry certificates and mark sheets with any other documents mentioned in the advertisement. These will be analyzed and verified by the Testing Team.

Various Recruitment Tests:

A written test is conducted for English, physics and mathematics. It is an objective kind of paper and is in Hindi and English, except for the English test. It is based on CBSE syllabus relating to AISSCE. Candidates for musician category or Group Z, is also given English dictation test and the efficiency in playing the musical instrument chosen by them. After passing the written test, candidates have to go in for the Physical Fitness Test. Those who pass this test is provided with added marks on a sliding scale.

Interview of Candidates:

After passing the PFT, the candidates are called for an interview. This is conducted by a team of Warrant ranks and officers. It is usually conducted in English. So, a candidate must have working comprehension of English. After qualifying in the interview round, the candidates have to undergo medical examination and tests. This is conducted by the Recruitment Medical Team, according to the medical standards of the Air Force. Medical reports of doctors other than the Air Force team will not be entertained.

Enrollment and Training:

The final procedure of the Indian Air Force Recruitment is the training period of the successful candidates. They are enrolled in the Air Force according to the availability of posts. Enrollment is for a period of 20 years, it is usually extended up to 57 years. On enrollment, the candidates are referred to the Basic Training Institute in Belgaum, Karnataka. Here they are given Joint Basic Phase Training for twelve weeks. After successfully completing this training, the candidates are assigned trades and sent for their specific trade training. Finally, after trade training, the airmen are deployed on ground based jobs according to their trades.
