By Jason Smith Subscribe to RSS | July 16th 2012 | Views:

Bilingual people are most sought after resources in the current job market. Knowledge of a foreign language increases the employability of a person by multi-folds. Globalization has opened foreign markets. Hence, the requirement for resources with knowledge of multiple languages has increased tremendously. For employees to interact with peers across geographical locations, being multi linguistic becomes essential. It becomes very difficult to find resources who can speak the right combination of languages. Employers are constantly in search of resources who can speak languages of countries in which the employer and his clients have their footprints in.

Knowledge of Languages for Relocation

If you wish to relocate to another country, knowledge of the local language of that country becomes very essential. For example, if you want to relocate to Germany and are looking for a German job, it would be mandatory for you to know German fluently apart from having an appropriate visa to work there. Your employability will increase if you are also fluent in English. A German company that is looking for a resource who can communicate with their British Counterparts or with any peers in English speaking nations will be eager to employ you. If you wish to relocate to French speaking countries such as France or Canada, the visa process itself mandates the knowledge of French.

If your dream is to work in a Japanese company, knowledge of Japanese will be an added advantage to find that coveted Japanese job. Knowledge of Japanese can be acquired through various resources. You can join the language teaching centers in your city to pick up the language. Alternatively, you can use the web to learn the language. There are plenty of audio-visual aids for acquiring language skills.

Requirements for a Translator’s Role

A major area in which bilingual and multilingual people are in demand is in translator roles. There is a constant requirement for people who can translate content from one language to another. While there are currently many tools that perform translation, none of them have zero error translation. Translation requires that you should know both the languages thoroughly. For example, to be employed as a French - English translator, you must be an expert in both French as well as English languages. Mere knowledge of the basics of the language will not suffice. In depth knowledge is mandatory for translator jobs.

Making An International Career

Multi lingual people have tremendous scope in the international job market. Knowledge of various languages enables you to seamlessly interact with people across cultures and geographical locations. For multinational companies that are spread across various geographical locations, you would be an invaluable asset. Multi linguistic people are a small pool of resource and are high in demand.
