What qualities does a top MBA institute look for in a candidate?
A few days ago, I had though time explaining my grandfather the importance of entrance test conducted by the different universities and educational bodies for students who want to go for advance courses. Well, it is obvious that my grandfather found the system of entrance exam a bit weird [this is what he said], as there were no such test in his times. We should keep in mind that times have changed the competition graph in the present times is showing a constant upward movement. The purpose of entrance exams like MAT, CAT, XAT or GCET is to test the capabilities of the applicant to handle the pressure of studies and of their profession, desiring enroll for MBA program.
As defense forces check the “officer-like qualities” of the candidate aspiring to join the services, similarly, some of the finest the management institutes also requires their would-be students to possess certain “manager-like qualities”., which can help them to go through a though educational degree like MBA. These qualities give management professionals a cutting edge and above all makes them highly preferred employees in various industries; be it private sector or public sector enterprises. MBA course is a specialized degree program which requires the pursuer to be have above average I.Q, should be focused, have a rational and creative approach.
The corporate world is full of ruthless competition, where only a person with calm, composed temperament can emerge as a winner. So, amajor purpose of any entrance tests even if it is for the some higher positions in the state administration or for admission in MBA programs is to ensure that only people with certain personality traits are selected. The written exam and the subsequent GD and PI give an insight to the selectors which enable them to notice qualities like initiative to take responsibility, honesty [loyalty], innovative approach towards any problem posed before them as a manager or entrepreneur.
In fact, MBA course itself is quite difficult to pursue, with new challenges and projects coming up every now and then, therefore, the candidate pursuingrequiresbeing intelligent enough to understand whatever is taught, and able to cope up with the daily pressure that this rigorous educational program creates. Moreover, the management professionals are seen as “leaders”, who with their better understanding about the business operations can lead the team in any situation; whether it is favorable or unfavorable. So, what an admission panel generally look out is the leadership quality in a candidate, which also makes them better managers.
Another thing that most management institute sees is that whether the candidate is “actually interested” in joining the MBA program or is just doing for the heck of doing it or following the popular trend. The reason, being, the course is rigorous which needs full dedication and interest only which will help them to complete the course, apart from this, their zeal to succeed and leave a mark in the world is also considered as a major trait that paves their path to some of the best management colleges not only in the country, but also the in world.
Business is just similar to a game of chess; it requires an analytical and rational mind, which can make calculated moves to win the game. Rational and logical thinking is a major trait that can give an aspirant his or her much desired ticket to coveted MBA course in some of the most reputed colleges.
In any business good inter-personal communication plays a crucial part, as business transaction mainly dependsona healthy “personal connection” between both the parties feel. Therefore, an aspirant planning to get admission in the MBA program has to prove his or her caliber for good communication as well as ability to maintain good relations with corporate clients.
Some of these “manager-like qualities” are inborn; however, it is never difficult to groom yourself with some these personality traits
