WA Tenders for Perth Waterfront Development
The WA department of planning has released another tender for the Perth Waterfront development. The Perth Waterfront development will reconnect the city with the magnificent Swan River, creating a stimulating, active and enjoyable place for locals and visitors alike.
The project is part of Perth’s transformation – bringing the Swan River back into the heart of the city and reconnecting the CBD with Northbridge through the Perth City Link and Perth Cultural Centre projects.
Perth Waterfront has been the subject of intense debate between the community, business and industry over a number of years. The current masterplan has evolved, through ongoing peer review, technical input and community comment to ensure that the plan reflects the Perth city context, provides an appropriate interface with the SwanRiver and is responsive to site and market conditions.
A new inlet will bring the river closer to the foot of the city and is framed by uninterrupted public terraces, promenades and civic spaces. The inlet provides a unique landscape, a quiet place for relaxation, and a habitat for our native Black Swans.
The cafes, bars and restaurants spilling out onto the public promenade and over the water’s edge, will create a vibrant experience day and night and will be accessible through uninterrupted pedestrian circuits, cycle paths and bridges and a commuter ferry.
The Indigenous Cultural Centre remains a key element of the planning for Perth Waterfront and is to be delivered in the second phase of the project. The priority is to focus on delivering the fundamental infrastructure on which these amazing buildings will be constructed, including the inlet, the parks and public spaces, and the roads and services.
To realise the Perth Waterfront vision, the State Government has confirmed funding for capital works to enable the commencement of project construction in early 2012. Premier Colin Barnett said Cabinet had approved $270million funding for the Perth Waterfront Project in the 2011-12 State Budget. Construction is expected to take about 30 months with the project due to be completed in mid-2014.
“Preparation of the site will begin immediately after the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in October this year which will pave the way for major earthworks for the exciting redevelopment of Perth Waterfront in early 2012,” he said.
“This is a significant milestone for the project and a tangible step towards its delivery. “The new waterfront will ensure Perth remains a contemporary, liveable and globally competitive city.”
The State Cabinet decision follows the completion of Phase Two planning, design and site investigation works for the project, undertaken by the Department of Planning.
The latest WA Tender is for a suitably experienced and qualified heritage contractors to respond to the call for Registrations of Interest (ROI) for the deconstruction of the Florence Hummerston building.
