Self-Maintenance and Normal Use of HVAC Equipment

Machines need some care and attention from their human owners. Much like the human body, a machine needs routine checks and upkeep to prevent it from being overworked and eventually breaking down. As such, regular maintenance is necessary to keep it in optimal working condition. Heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, for example, normally go haywire due to filthy and clogged filters—but more on this later.

Air conditioning systems need to be set in the “cool” position and left in that state. This way, the machine regulates the air temperature and maintains it at a constant level, thus helping the condenser do its job more efficiently. This keeps the machine running smoothly throughout the day.

Sometimes, problems with the air conditioner arise from faulty circuit breakers. For this reason, the circuit breakers should be checked every now and then for signs of potential electrical damage. So if you notice that your air conditioner does not turn on or if the thermostat does not respond after repeated attempts, then it’s probably time to have your circuit breakers and wiring checked.

Air conditioners contain gas furnaces that facilitate heat generation whenever it is needed. These furnaces are equipped with a blower to prevent overheating and are designed to start running if the thermostat is intended to cool a room. These furnaces are also equipped with filters for better air quality, and these need constant cleaning to ensure hassle-free machine operation. The entire machine has air grilles to promote ventilation within the machine; these grilles also need to be cleaned and kept free from blockage.

If the weather is too cold, it helps to set the thermostat in “heat” instead of “cool” to prevent unnecessary energy consumption. However, Indianapolis air conditioning experts agree that the fan needs to be kept running to prevent overheating when in this setting. This also helps promotes ventilation and prevents overheating.

It also helps to check the circuit breakers once in a while, ideally once every three months. Sometimes, problems with the HVAC equipment arise because of electrical defects. Detecting circuit breaker-related defects can prevent further complications and allows Indianapolis heating and cooling equipment to run better for longer.

Indianapolis heating equipment like furnaces or boilers are also equipped with filters and air grilles. To keep them in excellent condition, keep them free of debris and avoid placing them against walls or pieces of furniture without some clearance in between. The blowers found inside keep the machine from overheating but should be checked and wiped free from dust to avoid overheating.
