Middle ages were subjected to be the times of new birth or new beginning, gallantry, an epoch of unparalleled narration. The powerful kingdoms of the globe pitted the weak kingdoms which were the consequences of unending precession of wars, intrigues and conquests. Just not the wars, the era had an essence of beauty and romance. There were many epic and ancestral things which recall history’s memories.

A historic possession that some of you might remember is Scottish claymore sword. Here the term claymore signifies the Scottish deviation of late medieval swords. This sword is characterized of having a cross hilt of forward pitched quill on in the company of quatrefoil annihilation. Sword was prominent in 15th to 17th centuries. Initially ancient beastly swords were famous and were referred to humongous gladiator type swords that were found in Europe or the Mediterranean. Then the claymore became famous which was known to be grotesque sword, it was larger and known to behead or defeat the strongest adversary. Thus, a great effort was indeed required to wield the sword. There are supposed to be two types of it.

Foremost type was made to be held with both the hands. This sword could be seen in the magazines or if you ever watched brave heart. It comprises of cross hilt which is also known as cross guard. With the help of these hilts only one can hold the sword and the handles helped to extend beyond the right angle of the blade. Such swords were used by Scottish highlanders.

The supplementary category was basket hilted broadsword. This weapon was regulated in 16th century. The meaning of basket hilted is that it has a basket shaped guard that was used to protect the hands. On contrary broadsword means extraordinarily extended sword which is double edged. This blade could be viewed in British army that has highland regiments where the weapon is exclusively as their full dress sword.

The two handed Scottish claymore sword was used prevalently used till the end of medieval interlude and for some time was part of the modern era too. From 1500 AD to 1700 AD the English and Scotts used the sword in the wars against their enemies. It is about 55 inches in height and weight around 5.5 pounds. It was no doubt difficult to handle it.

Moderately standardized in technique, the weapon was set with a rudder pommel often topped by a hemispherical twisted kernel and a sentinel with straight, frontward inclined artillery finale in quatrefoils, and languet in a row down the middle of the cutting edge from the guard. An additional widespread style of dual handed claymore was the clamshell hilt. It had a cross safeguard that had of descending curvature arms and two huge, encircling, and curved in plates that sheltered the front grasp.

These weapons are known today also and could be found in any of the galleries as they are long, straight and double edged which is only one of its kinds. Their cross guard makes them unique and remembering that always intersects with the blade and is angled.
