In 1915 it hired Famous basketball player chuck taylor to endorse and give insight on athletic footwear.In 1917 first shoe specifically deigned to play basketball hit the market as Converse All Star.It was an instant hit because of its comfort,nice fitting and low price.This shoe was also known as hi tops and was available in black and white canvas.In 1923 converse put the name of Chuck taylor as signature on its shoes to recognize his valuable service in the company's success.These shoes are also known as Chucks among its fans.

Convere has a market share of more than eighty percent of athletic footwear market by 1965.Chuck taylor died in 1969 and company lost a great salesman.Apart from that poor decisions taken by its managers and stiff competition from nike,adidas and puma saw its market share fall rapidly.Converse filed for bankruptcy in 2001 and was later brought by Nike in 2003 for a sum of 305 million us dollars.This deal boosted the image of Nike as chucks are part of american history.Half of america has atleast owned a converse shoe in his lifetime and it was certainly a special moment of his life.Converse are a part of american dream and it was favorite of all the rebels as evident by numerous photos of all star on the music covers.

Converse acquired Jack Purcell tennis shoes in the deal it made with the rival B F Goodrich.

A commercial of james dean in 1980's wearing jack purcell shoes boosted the sales of converse by fifty percent.

It was official shoe of 1984 olympics.

In 1991 Nirvana singer kurt cobain boosted its sales by sporting converse hi tops.

Converse shoes are unisexual.They are designed keeping the feets of both men and women in mind.

White converse shoes were designed for 1936 US olympics team.

Marquis converse lost the company in 1928 because of his failed attempt to market a tire converse cord.

Stone family brought the converse company in 1933 and ruled it for 39 years when it sold it in 1972.

Converse yearbook was launched in 1922 and was very popular among youths.

Today the most famous converse styles are lo top,hi top,slip ons and x-hi.
