Often people think that government license regulations are simply a way to earn more money with frivolous and unnecessary certifications. However, in regards to the requirement for obtaining a certified food handler’s license in Texas, this is not the case. This certification is in place to ensure that all those who work with food in any manner are educated and fully aware of safe food handling practices.

With any type of food, including fresh vegetables and fruit, raw meat, poultry and fish, or even previously cooked foods, it is absolutely necessary to use the utmost safe storage, handling and preparation methods to ensure the public’s safety.

The Texas food handler’s license is similar to the Texas liquor license in that it is in place to protect consumers, as well as establishments from lawsuits, and also to protect employees from situations where they may be responsible for improper food or alcohol service.

Thanks to modern technology anyone requiring this certification can do so from home as long as they have a computer and internet connection. These courses are available online, opening up this certification to almost anyone. The course and exam can be taken according to a person’s schedule, instead of having to schedule their busy lives around the courses.

For those who may be searching for a job, obtaining this certification will give them an advantage over those who have not completed the course. While employers have the option of training new hires on the job, an employee who already has this is going to save the employer training time and give that potential employee a better chance of being hired.

It’s a relatively inexpensive course and test, providing important information to help ensure food safety at all levels of the food service industry.
