Bullying New York can have serious implications for young victims

By Robert Harnick Subscribe to RSS | November 25th 2011 | Views:

Bullying New York is a common practice in most schools. You will be shocked to know that approximately 40% to 80% of school-age children experience bullying at some point during their school careers. 20-40% of bullying victims actually report being bullied. 70% of middle school and high school students experience bullying in school. 7-12% of bullies are habitual and pose a serious threat. 5-15% of students are constantly bullied. 27% of students are bullied because of their refusal to engage in common sexual practices. 25% of students encourage bullying if not given proper education and support in anti-bullying techniques. However, despite being such a ghastly practice, it is sad to know that bullying New York is mostly ignored, not taken seriously by elders and authorities, thus leading to serious implications for the young victims.

In schools, Bullying New York incidents can occur almost anywhere and anytime. However, it often occurs when there is a lack of close supervision - PE, recess, hallways, bathrooms, on school buses and waiting for buses, classes that require group work and/or after school activities. Bullying New York often involves a group of children taking advantage of or singling out one particular child. These bullies inevitably gain the loyalty many of bystanders who want to avoid becoming the next victim. They taunt and tease their target before physically bullying them.

It is shocking to note that many a times, Bullying New York can also be carried out by teachers and the school authorities themselves. There is an inherent power differential in the system that can easily give birth to abuse, aggression, humiliation, or exclusion — even while maintaining overt commitments to anti-bullying policies.

Bullying New York can be of various types- physical, emotional, verbal, cyber, sexual and homophobic. Which ever be the type, its effect on a child’s development is always devastating.

Bullying New York has both temporary as well as permanent impact of the victims. In the short-term, bullying New York victims can suffer from depression, tendency to attempt suicide, anxiety attacks, anger problems and significant drop in school performance. The long term affects of bullying New York can be feelings of insecurity in victims, lack of trust, extreme sensitivity and need for revenge.

As prevention is better than cure, some serious measures should be strictly adopted to reduce the occurrence of this malpractice. To begin with, parents should stay informed about what is going on with their children. Adult supervision should be increased in schools. Schools should enforce consistent and immediate consequences for aggressive behaviors. It can be helpful to have a grievance redressed cell in schools where the children can report any such bullying New York problems, concerns and offer suggestions. Schools should teach cooperative learning activities and encourage positive peer relations. Parents should teach their children various verbal and physical techniques of self-defense, to use in case such a scenario arises.

With bullying New York creating such havoc, anti-bullying programs, especially designed to teach students cooperation and conflict resolving techniques, can be the way out.

Bullying New York victims can get justice and suitable compensation with the help of especially qualified and adequately experience child abuse lawyers.
