Battery discharger

The battery discharger has been designed to test the efficiency of batteries of any type, voltage and capacity.

These instruments perform a controlled discharge of the battery, while the current is kept constant by a high frequency DC/DC converter, based on MOSFET technology for smaller units and IGBT technology for bigger units.

The operation of the discharger is completely automatic: it's enough to connect the battery, to set the stop voltage, the maximum time and the discharge current. All tests are made automatically, while the digital display shows the partial results of discharger.

KEY FEATURES FOR A BATTERY DISCHARGER

1.Electronic polarity reversal and anti-arcing protection (without fuses).An active circuit prevents any arcing between the connectors when the battery is being connected. If a battery is connected with reverse polarity, the device doesn't start and no current flows.

2.Auto-Test at power-on. When the discharger is powered, an automatic test of the control logic and power electronics is performed in less than 10 seconds. In case of components failures, the discharger remains in a safe, stand-by mode.

3.Integrated DataLogger. While the discharge is in progress, it's not necessary to leave a PC always connected to the discharger, because the integrated DataLogger has enough memory to save the entire discharge curve. At the end of the test, it's possible to download the data from the discharger memory to the PC in seconds. The standard connection interfaces is USB. Wireless interfaces are available on request.

4.Extended Analysis capability, with the PC software. It is powerful, dedicated software that extends the capabilities. It offers the opportunity to generate different plots of the discharge curve: Battery voltage, discharge current, discharge power [kW], capacity discharged[Ah], energy discharged[kWh]

5. Unlimited parallel operation, managed by software. When two or more units operate in parallel, it's possible to download all the data with the software, and to merge them into a single, complete test report. This feature gives the opportunity to achieve an unlimited discharge power, by connecting an unlimited number of units in parallel.

SEQUENCE OF OPERATION

1. Make sure the PC is NOT connected to the battery discharger serial port or USB;

2. Connect the battery to be tested;

3. Turn on the device, by moving the general switch 0-1 to position "1";

4. The display will show the BATTERY VOLTAGE for 3 seconds, then it will show the proposed STOP VOLTAGE, with the flashing letter "U";

5. If needed, adjust the STOP VOLTAGE with the buttons + and -, and press the button SET to proceed;

6. The display will show the MAXIMUM TIME ALLOWED FOR TEST, with the flashing letter "h";

7. If needed, adjust the MAXIMUM TIME ALLOWED FOR TEST with the buttons + and -, and press the button SET to proceed;

8. The discharger BDX is now ready to start the test. The display will show the message "ready".

9. Press both buttons + and - TOGETHER to start the test.

• If the potentiometer 0-100% is in position ZERO, the discharger will start the test and the display will show the discharge current in AMPS. At this point, use the two potentiometers 0-100% and +/-5% to adjust the discharge current to the desired value.

• If the potentiometer 0-100% is not in position ZERO (all left), the discharger will not start and the display will show the message "POT". It's necessary to rotate the potentiometer 0- 100% left to the position ZERO, then the battery discharger BDX will start.
