It is a common saying that elimination is always far superior to medication but when it comes to settling debts, elimination might not be a viable option at every occasion. Talking of disadvantages, apparently the process is fine without much of a technical complication. However, the only problem is that the fate of the process totally lies on the wish of the creditor and if the creditor does not wish to negotiate, nothing can be done. However, being fully aware of the time it takes for a legal settlement, most creditors are more or less happy to negotiate on any reasonable bet.
