Glasgow Airport first opened its doors in 1966. Run by BAA, the airport now operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, and sees an average of 20,000 passengers travelling through the terminal daily, totalling approximately 7 million passengers per year. From travellers staying in Glasgow Airport hotel rooms and using Glasgow as a stopover destination, to those relying solely on domestic or international flights, the airport sees many passengers walk through its doors on a regular basis.

Aircrafts and Airlines

Approximately thirty airlines utilise Glasgow Airport on a daily basis, and there are approximately 80,000 scheduled flights per year. On average, there are 200 flights per day taking passengers to a range of domestic and international destinations. The airport sees several types of aircraft landing on its tarmac each day, from a range of Boeing aircraft, including 737 and 747, to the Airbus A310 and A330.

Top Destinations

The top destinations from Glasgow airport, beginning with the most popular, are Heathrow, Gatwick, and Stansted, with Dubai and Amsterdam completing the top five. Luton, Birmingham, Belfast, Bristol, and Tenerife all finish in the top ten. Glasgow services a range of popular domestic destinations as well as international destinations, which allows passengers greater freedom when booking flights from Glasgow Airport. It is also possible to fly to other popular international destinations such as Alicante and Palma de Mallorca, New York, and Malaga. There are also a surprising number of flights to London, with up to fifty-eight aircrafts travelling there per day.

Investment

Over £200 million has been invested over the last ten years in Glasgow Airport and its facilities. Developments include an international pier extension and a terminal extension with advanced security, significantly more space for passengers to relax in, and a greater selection of shops, restaurants, and bars.
