For decades, muscle cars have been a staple in the auto manufacturing industry, and this has not changed even in recent years. Historically, their worldwide popularity peaked in the early ‘70s well unto the late ‘80s. To this day, muscle cars retain a certain appeal to a significant segment of the car buying public.

Manufacturers primarily targeted the youth market when the first muscle car rolled out of factories. The key appeal of a muscle car is its affordability and power, which appealed to younger motorists because powerful cars gave them bragging rights at a relatively cheap price. Muscle cars steadily became more expensive and utilized increasingly powerful engines. At their prime, Ford Motors, one of the leading muscle car manufacturers at the time, came out with four iconic muscle car models.

One of the most renowned muscle cars is the Ford Mustang, and its popularity hasn’t waned in the least; in fact, it is considered the number one selling model Ford has ever released. Back in 1979, at the height of the muscle car craze, Ford released the third generation Mustang, which was longer and lighter than the Mustang II. This generation had two-door coupes and even a convertible model, which was released in the early ‘80s.

Another notable muscle car from Ford is the Eighth Generation Thunderbird. Also referred to as “Fairmont Birds”, this car was based on the same platform as the Mustang III and was smaller than its predecessors. Unfortunately, this car did not fare well due to several engine and styling issues.

Ford subsequently released two more generations of Thunderbirds. Some used car dealerships Edmonton customers patronize would probably have one of these in their lots. The Ninth generation Thunderbird, dubbed the “Aero Bird”, featured a more streamlined design than the ones before it, while the Tenth was called the “More Aerodynamic Bird”, which requires no explanation.

The last muscle car Ford released in that decade was another Thunderbird. Used car dealers Edmonton has would tell you that the Eleventh Generation Thunderbird is a great car to own because it bridges the vintage and modern car eras. Called the “High-Tech Bird”, it was the first muscle car to sport modern technologies.

However you look at it, muscle cars are great investments then and now. You can find pre-owned muscle cars in excellent condition at leading used car dealerships Edmonton car buyers prefer.
