Car Myth Busted: What Separates the Car Fact from the Rumor

Cars have always been the subject of rumor and speculation. Perhaps, the Discovery Channel show MythBusters find pleasure in confirming rumors and debunking the myths surrounding cars. In fact, the show is not complete without at least using a car to prove that the car-related myth is confirmed, plausible, or busted. Below are some of the car myths the hosts of the show have tested and yielded a fruitful conclusion.

Beating a radar gun: It is once thought that you can prevent a radar gun from getting your speed by a myriad of unconventional ways. For example, covering the car in aluminum foil or paint with radar-absorbent properties can help the driver avoid a speeding ticket. None of the methods in the laundry list succeeded in beating the radar gun, and some are not even legal. Perhaps the only way to avoid a ticket is to drive under the speed limit.

Cellphone vs. alcohol: They say that using a cellphone while on the wheel is more dangerous than driving under the influence. To test this, the hosts drove through a driving test composed of four parts. Once they started using their cellphones and driving with alcohol levels close to the legal limit, as expected, they failed the course overall. However, their scores for the test while using their cellphones were much higher than that while driving drunk.

Moose crossing: Canadians are no strangers to moose crossing the road, which is why some roads in the country have moose signs. However, some people say that increasing speed when collision with a moose is inevitable will knock the latter off the road and save lives. However, the tests showed that the car sustained more damage by speeding up than slowing down. Car dealerships Edmonton has to offer advise slowing down on moose crossings.

Dirty golf ball: You may want to wash your car after reading this: a dirty car does not account for less fuel consumption. The idea behind this is that dirt creates an effect similar to a golf ball, making the car more aerodynamic. The clean car scored lower at 8.9 liters/100 km, compared to the dirty car that scored 9.8 liters/100 km. A car dealership Edmonton residents visit may have a reason to say that a clean car is a good car.

Stop in reverse: Car dealerships in Edmonton sell cars with safety features that prevent drivers from accidentally shifting into reverse while driving. Both manual and automatic transmissions have their own ways of preventing a sudden shift into reverse gear. As a result, it is impossible for a car to suddenly stop by hitting the reverse gear.
