Traditionally, these cards were simple black print on white stock. Today professional business cards include a variety of designs and shapes.
The standard dimension of a business card is 3.5*2 inches .That’s the finished card .Many printed designs include bleed. The bleed area is an extra 1/8th inches of space for design elements or backgrounds that extend beyond the finished size of the piece. A business card with bleed is printed slightly oversized and then cut to size giving the impression that the printing bleeds off the edge of the card, rather than having white borders.
These cards are printed on some form of card stock, the visual effect, and method of printing, cost and other details varying according to cultural and organizational norms or personal preferences. The density and weight of the stock on which the card is printed varies. High quality cards with full color photographs are printed using spot colors on sheet fed offset printing presses. Some companies have even trademarked their spot colors. If the color of the logo is a single color and the type is another color, the process is considered two colors. More colors can be added depending on the requirements.
Besides the single sided business cards, there are the two sided ones which provide extra space to work with especially if one wants to provide any extra information. Custom business cards have many options for commercial business card printing. The folded cards have double the space of the standard card and can be used as a mini brochure or greeting card.
